This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend Birth Boot Camp’s company retreat. It was so great to connect with other birth workers, educators and doulas, who are working in their own communities to help improve birth.
We had several great speakers who addressed relevant topics- how to take care of yourself so you can serve others, how to find balance, how to build your business using various social media platforms and tools, and supporting birth workers of color and women of color to help combat the systemic racism that is happening to birthing women all over the United States.
I think what I appreciate most of all and what continues to impress me is the company culture. Too often in birth work, there is horizontal violence among birth workers- cattiness and gossiping. Building a culture of positivity and collaboration is so important. In addition, Birth Boot Camp is invested in helping their educators and doulas to build their businesses, on a large scale as well as taking the time for individual attention. I know that my joys and struggles matter to this community of women.
I am filled with gratitude at the opportunity to provide exceptional childbirth education to my students as well as being part of a community that helps me become the best version of myself.
